A/N: still here? Let me know your thoughts on the movie, and if you haven’t seen it…. GO WATCH IT. Also I’m not sure if everything I say about these characters is 100% true, especially Liz Allan. Some of this will obviously be different from the movie. Please let me know what you think down in the comments below!

Italics- (y/n)’s thoughts

(Y/N) POV

The friend zone. Probably the worst place in the world to be no matter how old you are, where you are, or who you are. Once you're in, there is no getting out. And I know for sure, I, (y/f/n), am never getting out.

Sucks right? It isn’t so bad. It’s not like Liz actually feels anything for Peter… I think. Her small compliments during academic decathlon practices haven’t gone unnoticed by me.

I guess I get it. She’s super smart (decathlon team leader), great sense of style, really pretty, and has an amazing personality. What guy wouldn’t be attracted to her?

I know I may not be as pretty as she is... or as perfect as she is, but I've probably got a better chance than her. Right? I mean, w
hat has she done for him? I’m the shoulder Peter cries on.  I’m the one that… I’m the one there for him every time. And he just leaves me on the sidelines.

NORMAL POV

“(Y/n)? (y/n)? Are you even listening?” Peter said, snapping his fingers in my face.

“What? Oh sorry Peter… what were you saying?” you said.

“Liz. You probably don’t care.” Ned said, sighing as he continued to look at Liz with Peter.

“No it’s fine. If I can talk to you about guys I don't see why he can’t talk about Liz. Besides, it’s not like he hasn’t talked about her at lunch before. Only everyday right?” You shrugged your shoulders and continued to watch them watch Liz.

“You guys are losers.” Michelle said from the end of the table, startling all three of us.

Ain’t that right.

You stood up and grabbed your bag, flattened down your sweater over your skirt, and put your hair behind your ear.

“Alright, I’m gonna go to class early. See you guys. See you Michelle.”

Peter and Ned waved bye while Michelle grunted from her spot on the table. As you walked away, you watched from the corner of your eye as Peter continued to gaze at Liz putting up the homecoming banner. Seeing you walk towards the entrance of the cafeteria, Liz waved from the ladder. You waved back and smiled at her.

The rest of your day went by like it did everyday. You sat in chemistry, constantly glancing back at the clock and Peter, who was doing God knows what with his chemicals. Spanish was boring. English was even worse as you were given time to read a book you had already read in freshman year. And band was horrible since Peter quit and left you alone with the worse music teacher in history. By the time the clock read 2:45, Peter would be out the door faster than you could say his name.

You sighed as pushed your hair behind your ear and made your way to where Ned was waiting for you. He was busy looking for something in his bag, so you took the opportunity to scare your friend.

“Boo!”

“(y/n)!! What if I had been holding something important?!”

"You would've dropped it."

"EXACTLY!"

He picked up his backpack and brushed the dust off of it.

“Oh quit laughing. I’ll walk you to the café. Come on.”

You started making your way to the streets with Ned, leaving school behind. The sun shined down on you two as you crossed the road, casting your shadows onto the streets of Brooklyn as you talked about Peter.

“What do you think is going on with him Ned? He’s so different now... thanks to that Stark internship. Not that I’m not happy for him, but he quit band and science club! Nationals for the decathlon are coming up soon, and we both know he’s probably going to say he can’t make it. Ugh! I’m sick of this. Can't he just take a break from it?!”

Ned shrugged. You let another aggravated moan and ran your fingers through your (hair length) hair.

“I hate this! He’s supposed to be our friend Ned.”

“He is our friend (y/n) and has been since kindergarten.” Ned said, stopping as you reached the coffee shop around the corner from Peter’s.

You put your head down in defeat, knowing he was right.

“You’re right. I’ll see you later Ned.”

“Bye (y/n)!”

You walked in, inhaling the scent of coffee. Once you ordered your regular cup, you sat down at an empty table in the corner.

“Alrighty, let’s do this.” You whispered to yourself as you started homework.

By the time you finished, it was already 6 o’clock and time to finish the lego death star with Peter and Ned. As you walked down the street, you pulled your hair free from its updo and massaged your scalp. When you reached the apartment building, you made sure to grab their mail and pet the cat by the fourth floor.

“(y/n)!” Aunt May said, opening the door before you could even knock, “come on in. Here, I’ll take the mail. Thank you sweetie.”

She side hugged you and kissed your cheek, closing the door behind you.

“Perfect timing. You should join Peter and me for Thai. I’m pretty sure your mom won’t mind if you come along. You know what I’ll call her for you, why don’t you go let Peter know we're eating out.”

You smiled at her, “Thanks May. I would be delighted to join you guys for dinner.”

She pinched your cheek with love before pushing you in the direction towards Peter’s door.

“Alright, make sure to ask Ned if he wants to join. The more the merrier!”

“Sure will May!”

You knocked on the door. All you heard was the sound of hushed whispers. Not wanting to take the chance of either one being naked, you knocked again. This time you heard shuffling behind the door and a muffled voice. Peter’s muffled voice.

“Who is that?!” you heard Peter say.

“(y/n) probably. She said she was gonna come by. Dude! Are you gonna tell her?” you heard Ned whisper.

“I can’t tell her?! She’s just like May! She’ll flip! She’ll tell May if I tell her! We can’t!!!” Peter whispered.

You decided you had enough of eavesdropping and just decided to wait on the couch.

What aren’t they telling me? I can’t believe they think I’ll tell May! I can keep a secret. If we’re being real, Peter and Ned are the ones that can’t keep secrets.

You felt a comforting hand on your shoulder, “(y/n)? You okay? Something on your mind sweetie?”

You smiled up at her, rubbing her hand.

“Just stressed. Nationals for the decathlon are coming up, Peter and Ned are keeping secrets from me, school is hard, and I just really need some time away from everything.”

Feeling tears building up, you closed your eyes and continued to rub the comforting hand on your shoulder.

“It’ll be alright honey. I’m here for you. Peter’s here for you. Heck even Ned is here for you. And if school is stressing you out, just pop over. I’ll make you some of my walnut and date loaf for you to snack on while doing homework. And if you really need to, call and we can make some space for you here. Especially if you need someone to talk to. Okay?”

You stood up and hugged her, taking in all her warmth and love.

“Thanks May.”

“You’re welcome sweetie.”

You two broke apart to see Ned making his way out of Peter’s room.

“Gotta go. Bye May!”

“Bye Ned! Drop by anytime!” May said, waving back to Ned.

Once he left, May made her way to Peter’s room.

“Peter? You ready? (y/n) and I are waiting to go out for Thai food. Come on!”

“I’m coming! I’m coming!”

You and May watched as a disheveled Peter came out of his room dressed in a oversized grey sweatshirt and some khakis.

“Hey (y/n). Uhm…I uhh... hey...”

You blushed as he fumbled for something to say, watching him slowly blush as well.

“Why don’t we just leave,” May said, gathering her keys and wallet.

“Yeah, let’s go eat dinner.” Peter said, his voice cracking.

You giggled and made your way to the door as Aunt May and Peter followed behind.

Leading the way, you made sure to stick to the lit roads and streets while Aunt May and Peter continued to follow from behind. Oblivious to their conversation, you continued your way to the Thai restaurant.

“What was that back there huh Peter? Were you blushing?” Aunt May asked, wiggling her eyebrows at him.

“It was noth- nothing.” He replied red faced and voice cracking.

“Mhm. Your voice is cracking a lot more. You nervous around (y/n)? Sounds like a crush.”

Peter looked at your half lit figure as they walked under some construction. Your (hair color) swaying behind you. Your hands behind your back as you aimlessly led the way to food.

“What! No! We’re best friends. There’s no way. Besides… I uhh I kind of like Liz Allan.”

“Sure Peter. Just be careful with (y/n). She’s going through a lot right now and she needs you to be there for her.”

“Got it Aunt May.”

“Alright. Now let’s eat!”

Aunt May caught up with you and walked through the door together with you to grab a small table for three towards the back of the restaurant.

--- time skip for food ---

“Peter? You okay? Is your food not larby enough? Do you need more larb? How many times do I have to say larb to get you to have a well held conversation with (y/n) and me?”

Peter looked up from stabbing his food with his chopsticks.

“I uhm… I need a new backpack…” his voice barely a whisper.

“What?”

“I need a new backpack.” He said louder.

Aunt May raised her eyebrow, “Oh yeah? What happened to the old one?”

“Uhh…It uhhh...”

You and May followed his eyes to see what he was watching. On screen was footage of a recent heist along with an explosion, showing footage of Spiderman being thrown from the ATM machines and onto the street.

“If you two see anything like that happen, I want you two to run the other way. Okay?”

Before you and Peter could reply, a waiter then placed a plate of sticky rice in the middle of the table.

“Oh, we didn’t order this.” May said.

“I know. It’s on the house.” He said.

Peter and I looked at each other, giggling at the waiter’s attempts.

“How nice of him!” said May with a small smile.

“We think he larbs you,” you said wiggling your eyebrows.

“Oh hush you two,” May laughed as she shoved a forkful of pad thai into her mouth.

You laughed at her dismissal of the waiter's attempt to flirt as you guys continued to finish your meal.

--- mini timeskip post meal ---

“Thank you for the dinner May. I’ll see you guys tomorrow. Bye May! Bye Peter!” you hugged both Parkers, blushing as you came in contact with the younger Parker.

“Bye (y/n)!” May called as you started to walk down the road to your apartment.

Aunt May nudged Peter and gave him and look and pointed at you. He nodded and jogged to catch up with you.

“Hey (y/n). Why don’t you uh let me walk you home?”

You turned to look at him, his hand awkwardly scratching the back of his head.

“Its just down the street Peter, I’ll be fine.”

“It isn’t safe. And like you said, its just down the street.”

You studied his face. His eyebrows were creased upwards, hoping you would let him.

“Okay Parker,” you said with a smile growing on your face, “shall we?” you offered, holding out your right arm.
He smiled, replying with a, “We shall milady.”

You laughed as you walked down the rest of the street to your home. You stopped once you were in front of the stairs leading down to your flat and let go of Peter’s arm.

“Thanks Peter for walking me home. I uhm...”

I should tell him…

You couldn’t think of what to say as you looked up at him. His face was right above yours. His warm breath close hitting your face, his lips slightly parted, hair mussed, and his brown eyes staring into yours, quickly glancing down at your lips. You could feel yourself leaning slightly upwards as he leaned downwards.

What was that?!

“Goodnight Peter! See you tomorrow!”

You didn’t give him a chance to say goodbye before you ran up the stairs to your flat and slipped inside. Leaving Peter to stare at the space you once were standing.

“Night (y/n),” he whispered to the empty space.

You watched from the small window by the door as he left, slowly walking back to his flat. Your heart raced as you leaned back against the wall next to you.

“(y/n)? If you’re home, lock the door and get ready for bed!”

“Alright mom! Goodnight!” You yelled as you made your way to your room to change and sleep.

As you were brushing your teeth, you looked at your reflection and couldn’t help but think if you really had a chance to get out of the friend zone with Peter. But with Liz in the picture, did you really have a chance?
